DIY Body Scrub for Glowing Skin
This post is all about DIY Body Scrub for Glowing Skin
Hi Bettys, If you’ve always wondered how to get smooth glowing soft skin then this post is for you! Today we are going to dive in on how to make my favorite coffee & brown sugar body scrub.
Why It is Important to Exfoliate Your Skin
As we age our skin cell turnover begins to slow down. Meaning it gets harder and harder for us to shed dead skin cells, leaving our skin dull and dry. Regular exfoliation, however, can remove the top layer of dead skin cells, allowing the skin to breathe and rejuvenate. When you exfoliate you are stimulating collagen growth that helps with texture issues such as cellulite. Exfoliation also helps your skin better absorb your skin care products such as moisturizers, sunscreens, and serums. However, my favorite benefit of exfoliating is unclogging pores! Dirt and bacteria and hair can get trapped under dead skin cells (aka ingrown hairs & acne ) and exfoliating rids your skin of that and allows for new skin to flourish.
How Often Should I Exfoliate With My DIY Body Scrub?
How often should I exfoliate my body with my DIY body scrub?
Your skin type will depend on how often you should exfoliate. On average you can exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Also, depending on the season or your activities you may want to exfoliate more or less. I like to exfoliate always after a day in the salty ocean (but never if you have a sunburn!!). I also like to exfoliate after I’ve had a workout and have on tight gym clothes. However, if you have sensitive skin I would recommend starting once a week and building from there.
How often should I exfoliate my face with my DIY body scrub?
Yes, this exfoliating DIY body scrub can be used on your face as well!! In fact, I love using it on my face the caffeine really works to wake the skin up and the coconut oil gives it a fresh dewy glow! However, the skin on your face is more sensitive than the skin on your body so you have to be more careful with your exfoliation. Over-exfoliating the face can lead to more breakouts! It is professionally recommended you only exfoliate the facial skin every 3 days. Exfoliate wait 3 days, and exfoliate again.
Why You Should Make a DIY Body Scrub
Most DIY body scrubs can be made with items in your house for a fraction of the cost of store-bought scrubs. Yet, the real reason to DIY is most store-bought scrubs have nasty chemicals such as phthalates, petroleum, parabens, and synthetic fragrances we don’t want seeping into our skin.
Benefits of Caffeine for the Skin
Caffeine reduces blood flow to the skin allowing the skin to look brighter and tighter. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory for the skin helping with any swelling. Caffeine may also protect against photodamage, that is the damage our skin gets from UVA and UVB rays. That’s why I love to use this scrub after time in the sun and ocean!
Benefits of Coconut Oil for the Skin
Coconut Oil is like a magical elixir! Since it’s made up of fatty acids it allows your skin to retain moisture. Since coconut oil has antibacterial properties and provides a protective barrier to the skin, it actually shields it from environmental toxins, dirt, and other environmental pollutants you face every day. It also helps to soothe and calm any irritated skin.
Benefits of Himalayan Salt for the Skin
Himalayan Salt contains 48 different minerals! And while regular salt can be drying Himalayan salt helps restore deep hydration to the skin. It’s suitable for sensitive skin helping with eczema and psoriasis. It is also anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal as well. This salt also absorbs dirt and toxins allowing your skin to feel purified.
Benefits of Sugar for the Skin
Not only does sugar make your scrub smell sweet, but it is also a natural humectant, which means it draws moisture from the environment and locks it into your skin. Sugar also helps with aging. It is a natural source of glycolic acid which stimulates cell regeneration, new cell growth, and helps against sun-damaged skin. Who knew sugar was so good for us?!
How To Store Your DIY Body Scrub
Store your DIY body scrub in an air-tight container. This DIY body scrub will be used in the shower and it will be impossible to keep all water out. However, you want to try to keep as much water as you can from getting in the container for sanitation reasons. This DIY body scrub for soft glowing skin has a higher concentration of salt, and since the salt has anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-fungal properties the scrub can last for up to a year if maintained properly.
